ORDER FOR THE PUBLIC WORSHIP of  GOD

Palm Sunday - Sunday of His Passion         April 14, 2019

Prelude                                             Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates”

            Truro

Lift up your heads, ye mighty gates! Behold, the King of Glory waits; King of kings is drawing near, the   Savior of the world is here.

Fling wide the portals of your heart; make it a temple, set apart from earthly use for heav’n’s employ, adorned with prayer and love and joy.

Redeemer, come! I open wide my heart to thee; here, Lord, abide! Let me thy inner presence feel; thy grace and love in me reveal.

So come, my Sovereign, enter in! Let new and nobler life begin! Thy Holy Spirit, guide us on, until the glorious crown be won.

Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 118:1,19-23)

   Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;

For his steadfast love endures forever!

Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD.

This is the gate of the LORD; the righteous shall enter through it.

I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation.

The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is the LORD's doing; it is

 marvelous in our eyes.

*Hymn #300                                                 ””All Glory, Laud and Honor””

*Prayer of Adoration

*Responsive Gospel Lesson                  John 12:12-15

The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.

So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!"

And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,

"Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!"

Children’s Message               (ages 3 and Up)

*Hymn #297                                                 “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna”

Corporate Prayer of Confession with Individual Prayers of Confession

O God of Glory, we confess that our praise of Your majesty has too often been insincere

and our behavior as citizens of Your Kingdom treasonous.

Forgive us for our zeal for making our names great, which robs You of Your glory and honor.

Pardon us for resisting Your kingship and seeking to be our own authority.

You sent Your Son to rescue us. For our rebellion, He died. For our restoration, He rose.

Now by Your Spirit, ride into our hearts with Your healing grace.

Transform us and renew us that with sincere hearts we may delight in You

and live for the glory of Your name. We pray this in the blessed name of Jesus, our King.

Responsive Assurance of Divine Pardon  (John 3:16,17)

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Offertory & Prayer of Thanksgiving

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow, Praise Him, all creatures here below. Praise Him above, ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
