 Third Sunday of Easter                  April 26, 2020

*Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 22:27,28)

   The LORD looks down from heaven;

            He sees all the children of man;

   From where He sits enthroned He looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth,

            He who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds.

   The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.

            The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue.

   Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His steadfast love,

            That He may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine.

*Hymn #352                         “O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus”

*Prayer of Adoration

*Profession of Faith - The Children’s Catechism #137-140

   What sign is used in the Lord's Supper?

            Eating bread and drinking wine to remember the suffering and death of Jesus.

   What does the bread represent? Christ's body sacrificed for our sins.

   What does the wine represent? Christ's blood shed for our sins.

   Who may rightly partake of the Lord's Supper?

            Those who repent of their sins, trust in Christ, live a godly life,

            and profess their faith before the Church.

Prophetic Lesson                       Daniel 6:1-11 (see outline for text)

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:106

   We have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep Your righteous rules.

*Hymn                                               “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah”              Williams, Casella

   1. Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah, Pilgrim through this barren land.

       I am weak, but Thou art mighty; Hold me with Thy powerful hand.

       Bread of heaven, Feed me now and evermore;

       Bread of heaven, Feed me now and evermore.

   2. Open now the crystal fountain, Whence the healing waters flow;

       Let the fire and cloudy pillar Lead me all my journey through.

       Strong Deliverer, Be Thou still my Strength and Shield.

       Strong Deliverer, Be Thou still my Strength and Shield.

   3. When I tread the verge of Jordan, Bid my anxious fears subside;

       Death of death, and hell's destruction, Land me safe on Canaan's side.

      Songs of praises, I will ever give to Thee; Songs of praises, I will ever give to Thee.

       Land me safe on Canaan's side Bid my anxious fears, bid my anxious fears

       Land me safe on Canaan's side Bid my anxious fears, bid my anxious fears, goodbye

Offertory & Prayer of Thanksgiving

Sermon                                             “Daniel & the Lion’s Den, Part 1”                                   Pastor John Uhl

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

   Holy God and Father of all who trust in You,

   we are Your redeemed people,

   yet at times we refuse to live in the freedom that is ours.

   We are Your loved people,

   yet we spurn You by our desires for other loves.

   You call us to obedience,

   yet we question You and Your ways.

   Therefore, we repent and ask Your forgiveness

   for the travesty of our rebellion against You.

   Cleanse us with the blood of Your Son, which was shed for us.

   Show us how to build our lives on the only sure foundation, Jesus Christ our faithful Savior.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon   (Romans 4:25-5:1)

   (Jesus) was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.

   Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,

   we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bread & The Cup

*Hymn #526                                     “The Solid Rock”

*Congregational Response                    Three-fold Amen

*You are invited to Stand when prompted by Pastor John.

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.

Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you would like, Pastor John will lead a small discussion at the couches in the FH. Our theme topic this Spring is Personal Eschatology.
