Trinity Season                   August 15, 2021

*Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 56:3,4,12,13)

    When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.

            In God, whose Word I praise, in God I trust;

            I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

   I must perform my vows to You, O God;

            I will render thank offerings to You.

   For You have delivered my soul from death,

            Yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

*Hymn                            “By Thy Mercy”

   1. Jesus, Lord of life and glory, Bend from heaven thy gracious ear;

        While our waiting souls adore thee, Friend of helpless sinners, hear:

    2. From the depth of nature's blindness, From the hardening power of sin,

        From all malice and unkindness, From the pride that lurks within,

    Refrain: By thy mercy, O deliver us, good Lord

                  By thy mercy, O deliver us, good Lord, good Lord.

    3. When temptation sorely presses, In the day of Satan's power,

        In our times of deep distresses, In each dark and trying hour.

    4. When the world around is smiling, In the time of wealth and ease,

        Earthly joys our hearts beguiling, In the day of health and peace. Refrain

    5. In the weary hours of sickness, In the times of grief and pain,

        When we feel our mortal weakness, When all human help is vain.

    6. In the solemn hour of dying, In the awful judgment day,

        May our souls, on thee relying, Find thee still our Rock and Stay. (Refrain)

*Profession of Faith - Westminster Short Catechism #90

    How is the Word to be read and heard, that it may become effectual to salvation?

            We must attend thereunto with diligence, preparation, and prayer;

          receive it with faith and love,

            lay it up in our hearts, and practice it in our lives.

Sermon                                             “Imitators of God”                                                       John W. Uhl, Pastor

*Hymn                                     “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”                                C. Wesley, Twit

   1. Love divine, all loves excelling Joy of heaven, to earth come down

       Fix in us thy humble dwelling  All Thy faithful mercies crown

       Jesus, Thou art all compassion  Pure, unbounded love Thou art

       Visit us with thy salvation  Enter every trembling, every trembling heart

   2. Breathe, oh, breathe Thy loving Spirit  Into every troubled breast

       Let us all in Thee inherit  Let us find the promised rest

       Take away the love of sinning  Alpha and Omega be

       End of faith, as its beginning  Set our hearts at liberty, at liberty

   3. Come, Almighty, to deliver  Let us all Thy life receive

       Suddenly return, and never  Nevermore Thy temples leave

       Thee we would be always blessing  Serve Thee as Thy hosts above

       Pray and praise Thee without ceasing  Glory in Thy perfect, in Thy perfect love

   4. Finish, then, Thy new creation  Pure and spotless let us be

       Let us see Thy great salvation  Perfectly restored in Thee

       Changed from glory into glory  Til in heaven we take our place

       Til we cast our crowns before Thee  Lost in wonder, love, in wonder, love and praise

   Ending:  Wonder, love and praise (2X)

Corporate & Individual Confession of Sins

   Almighty God, You are the Father to the fatherless,

   Husband to the widow, Defender of the helpless, and Judge of all the earth.

   You are worthy of our wholehearted devotion and steadfast obedience.

   Yet, we humbly confess, we have not loved You with a pure heart

   and sustain us with Your bountiful Spirit through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

   nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves.

   We have not done justice, loved kindness,

   or walked humbly with You, our God.

   Have mercy on us, Father, in Your loving-kindness.

   In Your great compassion, cleanse us from our sin, restore us to the joy of Your salvation,

   and sustain us with Your bountiful Spirit through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon (Romans 5:1,2)

   Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

   Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand,

   and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.
