ORDER FOR THE PUBLIC WORSHIP of  GOD

Tenth Sunday after Pentecost                 August 18, 2019

Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 68:1-4)

God shall arise, his enemies shall be scattered; and those who hate him shall flee before him!

            As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away;

as wax melts before fire, so the wicked shall perish before God!

But the righteous shall be glad; they shall exult before God; they shall be jubilant with joy!

Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts; his name is the LORD; exult before him!

*Hymn #151             “A Mighty Fortress is Our God”

*Prayer of Adoration

*Affirmation of Faith - Children’s Catechism

What must you do to be saved? I must repent of my sin and believe in Christ as my Savior.

Corporate Prayer of Confession with Individual Prayers of Confession

O King of Glory, we confess that our praise of Your majesty has often been faint

and our behavior as citizens of Your Kingdom treasonous.

We have doubted Your perfect reign, and we have surrendered to the enemy

by our secret and known sins.

We have sought comfort in things that perish, rather than find rest in Your salvation.

Transform our hearts with healing grace, and forgive the wrong we have done,

and our failure to do what You have commanded.

Help us to humble ourselves and trust in Your power.

Melt our hard hearts with Your love and make us eager to honor You with our lives.

By the Holy Spirit’s continuing discipline, Your amazing grace, and abundant patience,

may we be loyal and loving servants of the King.

It is through Jesus Christ we pray.

Assurance of Divine Pardon  (1 John 4:9,10)

In this the love of God was made manifest among us,

that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.

In this is love, not that we have loved God

but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

*Hymn #89                             “Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee”

Offertory & Prayer of Thanksgiving

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow, Praise Him, all creatures here below.

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Lesson from Revelation                Revelation 20:1-10

The insolent utterly deride us, but we do not turn away from Your Law.

When we think of Your Rules from of-old, We take comfort, O LORD.  - Psalm 119:51-52

Greetings

Sermon         “What Jesus Has Done & Will Do to Satan”    John W. Uhl, Pastor

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.

Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you have interest or questions about the day’s sermon, join Pastor John at the couches for a short Q&A with others.
