Liturgy of the Advent Candle - Peace

Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 26:2,3,8,11,12)

Test me, O LORD, and try me; test my heart and my mind.

For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in Your faithfulness.

O LORD, I love the habitation of Your house and the place where Your glory dwells.

My foot stands on level ground; in the great assembly I will bless the LORD.

*Hymn #244             “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus”             Hyfrydol

*Prayer of Adoration

*Affirmation of Faith - Belgic Confession Article 18

Christians, what do we believe concerning the Incarnation?

We confess that God fulfilled the promise made to the early fathers and mothers

by the mouth of the holy prophets

when He sent the only and eternal Son of God into the world at the time appointed.

The Son took the “form of a slave” and was made in “human form,”

            truly assuming a real human nature, with all its weaknesses, except for sin;

being conceived in the womb of the blessed virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit,

            without male participation.

And Christ not only assumed human nature

as far as the body is concerned but also a real human soul, in order to be a real human being.

For since the soul had been lost as well as the body,

Christ had to assume them both to save them both together.

Gospel Lesson                            Matthew 6:5-15 (ESV)

"And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and

at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret.

And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. "And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the.

Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father

knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive

us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For

if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others

their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.’’

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:76

Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your promise to your servant.

Sermon         “A Christian’s Religion: Prayer & the Lord’s Prayer”

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

Gracious Father, who faithfully fulfilled Your promise of redemption

through the advent of Your one and only Son,

   we confess with broken hearts

that we have continued in our sin and rebellion

and have grieved You with our callous hearts.

Please forgive us for all our sins,

for we are truly sorry and do earnestly repent.

Restore and renew our spirits by Your grace that we may draw near to You,

obey You, enjoy You, and glorify Your matchless Name,

   through Jesus Christ our Redeemer.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.
