 Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany                   January 31, 2020

*Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 23)

   The LORD is my shepherd;

            I shall not want.

   He makes me lie down in green pastures.

            He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.

   He leads me in paths of righteousness for His Name's sake.

            Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

            I will fear no evil, for You are with me;

            Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

   You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;

            You anoint my head with oil; My cup overflows.

   Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,

            And I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

*Hymn #683                             “The King of Love My Shepherd Is

*Profession of Faith - Westminster Shorter Catechism Q? 37

   What benefits do believers receive from Christ at death?

            The souls of believers are at their death

            made perfect in holiness,

            and do immediately pass into glory;

            and their bodies, being still united to Christ,

            do rest in their graves, till the resurrection.

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:150-151

   They draw near who persecute us with evil purpose;

            They are far from Your Law.

   But You are near, O LORD,

            And all Your Commandments are true.

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

  O Lord, the great and awesome God,

  we have sinned and done wrong.

  We have been wicked and rebelled;

  turning aside from Your Commandments and Laws.

  We have not listened to Your servants, the apostles and prophets,

  refusing to obey Your voice.

  Lord, You are righteous, but we are covered with shame.

  Now, O God, hear our prayers.

  We do not make requests of You because we are righteous,

  but because of Your great mercy.

  O Lord, hear us! O Lord, forgive us!

  We pray in the matchless name of Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon (Proverbs 28:13)

            Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper,

            but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.
