“Jesus Will Change Your Mouth” * Ephesians 4:29

Pastor John W. Uhl * July 25, 2021

Ephesians 4:20-27

[20] But that is not the way you learned Christ!—

[21] assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, [22] to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,

[23] and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,

[24] and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

[25] Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

[26] Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

[27] and give no opportunity to the devil.

[28] Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.

[29] Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

INTRO:

James 3:6-7 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. [7] For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind…

Matthew 12:36 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak,

Luke 6:45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

  1.     A Rotten Mouth Exposes an Unholy Heart (Eph 4:29).

Matthew 7:17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.

Matthew 12:33-35 Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. [34] You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. [35] The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil.

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
