Seventh Sunday of Easter                  May 24, 2020

*Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 61:1-4)

Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint.

Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I,

for You have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.

Let me dwell in your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings!

*Hymn #357                                     “Christ Arose”

*Prayer of Adoration

*Profession of Faith - The Children’s Catechism #148-149

What will God do to unbelievers at the last day?

He will judge them, and condemn them to everlasting punishment in the lake of fire

            with Satan and his angels.

What will God do for believers at the last day?

He will give them a home with him in the new heaven and the new earth.

Prophetic Lesson                       Daniel 9:1-19 (see outline for text)

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:111

Your testimonies are our heritage forever, for they are the joy of our heart.

*Hymn                       “O God, Our Help, in Ages Past”

1. O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home!

2. Beneath the shadow of Thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure;

Sufficient is Thine arm alone, And our defense is sure.

3. Before the hills in order stood, Or earth received her frame,

From everlasting Thou art God, To endless years the same.

4. Thy word commands our flesh to dust: Return, ye sons of men!

All nations rose from earth at first And turn to earth again.

5. A thousand ages in Thy sight Are like an evening gone;

Short as the watch that ends the night Before the rising sun.

6. O God our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come,

Be Thou our guard while troubles last, And our eternal home.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Sermon                                             “Daniel’s School of Prayer”                                Pastor John Uhl

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

O Blessed Redeemer, You have called us to have no other gods before You,

yet we confess that we are continually prone to worship idols.

You summon us to gaze upon the beauty and glory of Your Son,

yet we settle for the things of this world that will fade with time.

Forgive us for cherishing visions of earthly wealth, beauty, and power,

and for seeking more zealously after them than your kingdom, power and glory

Forgive our idolatrous hearts and wandering eyes

through the One who alone is worthy of our deepest affection, Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon   (1 Peter 3:18)

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous,

that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

The Bread & The Cup

*Hymn #571                                                 “Trust and Obey”

*Congregational Response                    Three-fold Amen

*You are invited to Stand when prompted by Pastor John.

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.

Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you would like, Pastor John will lead a small discussion at the couches in the FH. Our theme topic this Spring is Personal Eschatology.
