 Fourth Sunday of Easter                  May 03, 2020

*Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 37:10-13)

    In just a little while, the wicked will be no more; though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there.

            But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.

   The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes his teeth at him,

            But the Lord laughs at the wicked, for He sees that his day is coming.

*Hymn #705                         “It is Well with My Soul”

*Prayer of Adoration

*Profession of Faith - The Children’s Catechism #141-143

   Did Christ remain in the grave after His crucifixion?

      No. He rose bodily from the grave on the third day after His death.

   Where is Christ now? In heaven, ruling His kingdom and interceding for us.

   Will the Lord Jesus come again? Yes! He will return to judge the world on the last day.

Prophetic Lesson                       Daniel 6:12-28 (see outline for text)

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:107

   We are severely afflicted; give us life, O LORD, according to Your Word!

*Hymn #774                                     “When the Roll is Called up Yonder”

Offertory & Prayer of Thanksgiving

Sermon                                             “Daniel & the Lion’s Den, Part 2”                                   Pastor John Uhl

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

   Almighty and merciful Father, we are thankful that Your mercy is higher than the heavens,

   wider than our wanderings, and deeper than all our sin.

   Forgive our careless attitudes toward Your purposes,

   our refusal to trust Your goodness and sovereignty,

   our neglect of Your wise and gracious law,

   our indifference to the cries of the needy,

   our envy of those who have more than we have,

   and our obsession with living for our own names and kingdom.

   Transform us by Your Spirit so that we may desire what is good, love what You love,

   and do what You command, through Jesus Christ our Lord..

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon   (Isaiah 44:21b-22)

   I formed you; you are My servant;

   O Israel, you will not be forgotten by Me.

   I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like mist;

   Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.

The Bread & The Cup

*Hymn                                               “The Lord Will Provide”                                          Newton, Smith

   1. Though troubles assail me and dangers affright, Though friends should all fail and foes all unite;

   Yet one thing secures us, whatever betide, The scripture assures us the Lord will provide.

   The birds without barn or storehouse are fed From them let us learn to trust for our bread:

   His saints, what is fitting, shall ne’er be denied, So long as it’s written, the Lord will provide.

   2. We may, like the ships, by tempest be tossed On perilous deeps, but cannot be lost

   Though Satan enrages the wind and the tide, The promise engages, the Lord will provide.

   His call we obey, like Abram of old, Not knowing our way, but faith makes us bold;

   For though we are strangers we have a good Guide, And trust in all dangers, the Lord will provide.

   3. When Satan appears to stop up our path, and fills us with fears, we triumph by faith;

   He cannot take from us, though oft he has tried, This heart-cheering promise, the Lord will provide.

   He tells us we’re weak, our hope is in-vain, The good that we seek we ne’er shall obtain,

   But when such suggestions our spirits have plied, This answers all questions, the Lord will Provide.

   4. No strength of our own, or goodness we claim, Yet since we have known the Savior’s great Name;

   in this our strong tower for safety we hide, The Lord is our power, the Lord will provide.

   When life sinks apace and death is in view, This word of His grace shall comfort us through:

   No fearing or doubting with Christ on our side, We hope to die shouting, “The Lord will provide!”

*Congregational Response                    Three-fold Amen

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.

Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you would like, Pastor John will lead a small discussion at the couches in the FH. Our theme topic this Spring is Personal Eschatology.
