The Last Sunday after Pentecost                 November 24, 2019

Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 43:3,4,5)

   Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me;

Let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!

Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise you, O God, my God.

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?

Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation and my God.

*Hymn #344                         “Grace Greater than Our Sin”                 Moody

*Prayer of Adoration

*Affirmation of Faith - Children’s  Catechism

   What is the 5th Commandment?

The 5th Commandment is "Honor your father and your mother,

that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you."

What does the 5th Commandment teach you?

To love and obey my parents and all others that God appoints over me.

Gospel Lesson                            Matthew 5:43-48 (ESV)

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love

your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.

For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you

love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you

greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You

therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:74

Those who fear You shall see us and rejoice, because we have hoped in Your Word.

*Song                        “Cling to the Crucified” (see attached)                          Bonar, Twit

Offertory & Prayer of Thanksgiving - Doxology

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Sermon         “The Kingdom of Heaven: Loving Our Enemies”

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

Almighty God, who by Your Son has given us access to Your throne of grace,

and who has made wondrous promises to us of things eternal,

we rightly owe You our total, unqualified devotion and obedience.

Yet we have foolishly and willfully strayed like lost sheep

by evil things we have done and by good things we have left undone.

We deserve nothing but Your wrath and displeasure,

but, because of Your fatherly love, we are bold to ask for Your complete

forgiveness of all the sins we have committed.

Grant to us the certain knowledge of our full pardon

and move us to constant, grateful obedience

that Your wonderful Name may be glorified, now and forever.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon  (Ephesians 1:7,8)

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses,

according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight.

The Bread & The Cup

*Hymn                        “Gloria Patri”                                  Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to Holy Ghost,

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

   World without end, Amen, Amen.

*Congregational Response                    Three-fold Amen

*You are invited to Stand when prompted by Pastor John.

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.

Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you have interest or questions about the day’s sermon, join Pastor John at the couches for a short Q&A with others.
