ORDER FOR THE PUBLIC WORSHIP of  GOD

 Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost                 November 10, 2019

Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 107:1,2,9,22)

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!

Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from trouble

For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things.

And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of His deeds in songs of joy!

*Hymn #38                “Ye Servants of God”                              Hanover

*Prayer of Adoration

*Affirmation of Faith - Children’s  Catechism

   What is the 3rd Commandment?

The 3rd Commandment is "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain,

for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain."

What does the 3rd Commandment teach you?

To treat God's Name, Word and Works with reverence.

Gospel Lesson                            Matthew 5:33-37 (ESV)

33 "Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the

Lord what you have sworn.' 34 But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne

of God, 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36 And do not

take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or

'No'; anything more than this comes from evil.

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:71-72

It is good for us that we were afflicted, that we might learn Your statutes.

The Law of Your mouth is better to us than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

*Song                         “Jesus I Come”                                        Sleeper, Thompson

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

Our Father in heaven, we thank You for sending Jesus our Savior

to call us from death to life.

We acknowledge that we were dead in sin before we heard His call,

but when we heard Him, like Lazarus, we arose by Your power.

However, Father, the grave clothes bind us still — old ways that we cannot throw off,

Deep sins that had become so much a part of our everyday lives —

To this day we are helpless on our own to live the new life that Christ calls us to pursue.

   Give us strength to persevere in Christ, O Father, and to fight and struggle in Him against our sins;

   Enable us through Your grace to live the new life that is ours in Jesus;

Give us faith to believe that You will complete the work you have begun in us at our conversion.

All this we ask in the Name of our Redeemer.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon  (1 Peter 2:24)

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree,

that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.

By his wounds you have been healed.

*Hymn #638                          “I Need Thee Every Hour”                                  Hawks, Lowry

*Benediction

*Congregational Response                    Three-fold Amen

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.

Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you have interest or questions about the day’s sermon, join Pastor John at the couches for a short Q&A with others.

NOTES:

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Our 3 rd  Sunday luncheon will be on November 17th with a Thanksgiving theme.  The church will provide the

meat (smoked turkey 😊)   so, please plan to bring a side dish to share.  We will put up a sign-up sheet on the

door to the kitchen in the fellowship hall, so each family can see what others are bringing.  This, of course, helps

prevent too many duplications of “goodies”.  PLAN TO COME…..  THIS HAS PROVEN TO BE A FUN TIME!!!!

CHRISTMAS SHOEBOX CONTRIBUTIONS:   If you care to share a Christmas donation for an underprivileged child in Africa, the boxes and instructions are on a table in the fellowship hall.  This has been a very rewarding ministry and is part of Samaritan’s Purse.  These need to be brought back to the church by Nov. 20th so they can be delivered to a designated drop off point.   THANK YOU FOR THIS SHOW OF LOVE!
