Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 139:14-16)

   We Praise you, for we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

            Wonderful are Your works; our souls know it very well.

   Our frames were not hidden from You, when we were being made in secret,

            intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

   Your eyes saw our unformed substance;

            In Your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for us,

            when as yet there was none of them.

*Song                         “Abide with Me”                             Lyte, Smith

*Prayer of Adoration

*Affirmation of Faith - Children’s  Catechism

   What is the 2nd Commandment?

            "You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven

            above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow

            down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity

            of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but

            showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments."

   What does the 2nd Commandment teach you?

            To worship God only as he commands, and not to worship God by using statues or pictures.

Gospel Lesson                            Matthew 5:27-32 (ESV)

   27 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' 28 But I say to you that everyone

   who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your

   right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your

   members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin,

   cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole

   body go into hell. 31 "It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of

   divorce.' 32 But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual

   immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:69-70

   The insolent smear us with lies, but with our whole hearts we keep Your precepts;

            Their heart is unfeeling like fat, but we delight in Your Law.

*Hymn #352                           “O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus”

The Bread & The Cup

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

   Our Father in heaven, we thank You for sending Jesus our Savior

   to call us from death to life.

   We acknowledge that we were dead in sin before we heard His call,

   but when we heard Him, like Lazarus, we arose by Your power.

   However, Father, the grave clothes bind us still — old ways that we cannot throw off,

   Deep sins that had become so much a part of our everyday lives —

   To this day we are helpless on our own to live the new life that Christ calls us to pursue.

   Give us strength to persevere in Christ, O Father, and to fight and struggle in Him against our sins;

   Enable us through Your grace to live the new life that is ours in Jesus;

   Give us faith to believe that You will complete the work you have begun in us at our conversion.

   All this we ask in the Name of our Redeemer.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon  (1 Peter 2:24)

   He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree,

   that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.

   By his wounds you have been healed.

*Hymn #343                                     “Amazing Grace”

*Congregational Response                    Three-fold Amen

*You are invited to Stand when prompted by Pastor John.

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.

Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you have interest or questions about the day’s sermon, join Pastor John at the couches for a short Q&A with others.

Tues, November 5th, at 6 pm, the Women of the church, will meet and enjoy fellowship with a soup supper, and repairing of the Chrismons  (the decorations that go on our sanctuary tree).

Ladies, please join us…  there is no need to bring anything…. Just your sweet smiles!

There are plenty of shoeboxes and the instructions for filling them that enable us to help the children of Africa, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse.  We need to have them filled and returned to the church by November 20th.   Thanks for your help in making a difference to other children in our World.  😊
