Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 1)

   Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners,

  nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

            But his delight is in the Law of the LORD, and on His Law he meditates day and night.

   He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season,

   and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

            The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

   Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;

            For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

*Hymn #11                            “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing”

*Prayer of Adoration

*Affirmation of Faith - Children’s  Catechism

   What do the Ten Commandments teach? To love God with all my heart, and my neighbor as myself.

   Who is your neighbor? Everybody is my neighbor.

   Is God pleased with those who love and obey him? Yes. God says, "I love them that love me." (KJV)

   Is God displeased with those who do not love and obey him?

            Yes. "God is angry with the wicked every day." (KJV)

Gospel Lesson                            Matthew 5:17-20 (ESV)

   17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them

   but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot,

   will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these

   commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but

   whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you,

   unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom

   of heaven.

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:65-66

   You have dealt well with Your servants, O LORD, according to Your Word.

            Teach us good judgment and knowledge, for we believe in Your commandments.

*Hymn                         “God Be Merciful To Me”                           Miner

   1. God, be merciful to me; On Thy grace I rest my plea

       Plenteous in compassion Thou, Blot out my transgressions now;

       Wash me, make me pure within; Cleanse, O cleanse me from my sin.

   2. My transgressions I confess; Grief and guilt my soul oppress.

       I have sinned against Thy grace, And provoked Thee to Thy face.

       I confess Thy judgement just; Speechless, I Thy mercy trust.

   3. I am evil, born in sin; Thou desirest truth within.

       Thou alone my Savior art, Teach Thy wisdom to my heart;

      Make me pure, Thy grace bestow, Wash me whiter than the snow. (Over)

   4. Broken, humbled to the dust By Thy wrath and judgment just,

       Let my contrite heart rejoice, And in gladness hear Thy voice;

       From my sins O hide Thy face, Blot them out in boundless grace.

   5. Gracious God, my heart renew, Make my spirit right and true.

       Cast me not away from Thee, Let Thy Spirit dwell in me;

       Thy salvation's joy impart, Steadfast make my willing heart.

   6. Sinners then shall learn from me, And return, O God, to Thee

       Savior all my guilt remove, And my tongue shall sing Thy love

       Touch my silent lips, O Lord, And my mouth shall praise accord

Sermon    “The Kingdom of Heaven: A People of a Fulfilled But Abiding Law”

The Bread & The Cup

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

   Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry,

   too real to hide, and too deep to undo.

   Forgive what our lips tremble to name,

   what our hearts can no longer bear,

   and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment.

   Set us free from a past that we cannot change;

   open to us a future in which we can be changed;

   and grant us grace to grow more and more in Your likeness and image,

   through Jesus Christ, the Light of the World.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon  (Ephesians 1:7)

   In Him we have redemption through His blood,

            the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.

*Hymn #337                          “Nothing but the Blood of Jesus”

*Congregational Response                 Three-fold Amen

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.

Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you have interest or questions about the day’s sermon, join Pastor John at the couches for a short Q&A with others.
