ORDER FOR THE PUBLIC WORSHIP of  GOD

Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost                 October 27, 2019

Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 46:6,7)

The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; He utters His voice, the earth melts.

The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

*Hymn #151                                     “A Mighty Fortress”

*Prayer of Adoration

*Affirmation of Faith - Children’s  Catechism

What is the 1st Commandment? The 1st Commandment is "You shall have no other gods before Me."

What does the 1st Commandment teach you? To worship the true God, and him only

Gospel Lesson                            Matthew 5:21-26 (ESV)

21 "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.' 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, 'You fool!' will be liable to the hell of fire. 23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.”

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:67-68

Before we were afflicted we went astray, but now we keep Your Word.

You are good and do good; teach us Your statutes.

*Hymn            “Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder”         Newton, Taylor

   1. Let us love and sing and wonder Let us praise the Savior’s Name

He has hushed the laws loud thunder He has quenched Mount Sinai’s flame

He has washed us with His blood He has washed us with His blood

He has washed us with His blood He has brought us nigh to God

   2. Let us love the Lord Who bought us Pitied us when enemies

Called us by His grace and taught us Gave us ears and gave us eyes

He has washed us with His blood He has washed us with His blood

He has washed us with His blood He presents our souls to God

   3. Let us sing though fierce temptation Threatens hard to bear us down

For the Lord, our strong salvation, Holds in view the conqueror’s crown

He, Who washed us with His blood, He, Who washed us with His blood,

He, Who washed us with His blood, Soon will bring us home to God

   4. Let us wonder grace and justice Join and point to mercy’s store

When through grace in Christ our trust is Justice smiles and asks no more

He Who washed us with His blood He Who washed us with His blood

He Who washed us with His blood Has secured our way to God

   5. Let us praise and join the chorus Of the saints enthroned on high

Here they trusted Him before us Now their praises fill the sky

Thou hast washed us with Thy blood Thou hast washed us with Thy blood

Thou hast washed us with Thy blood Thou art worthy Lamb of God

   6. Yes, we praise Thee, gracious Saviour Wonder, love, and bless Thy Name.

Pardon, Lord our poor endeavor Pity for Thou knowest our frame

Wash our souls and songs with blood Wash our souls and songs with blood

The Bread & The Cup

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry,

too real to hide, and too deep to undo.

Forgive what our lips tremble to name,

what our hearts can no longer bear,

and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment.

   Set us free from a past that we cannot change;

   open to us a future in which we can be changed;

and grant us grace to grow more and more in Your likeness and image,

through Jesus Christ, the Light of the World.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon  (Ephesians 1:7)

In Him we have redemption through His blood,

the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.

Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you have interest or questions about the day’s sermon, join Pastor John at the couches for a short Q&A with others.
