“Walk in the Light, Not in the Dark” * Ephesians 5:6-14

Pastor John W. Uhl * September 12, 2021

Ephesians 5:6-14 - Walk in Love

[6] Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

[7] Therefore do not become partners with them;

[8] for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light [9] (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true),

[10] and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.

[11] Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.

[12] For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret.

[13] But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible,

[14] for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,  Awake, O sleeper, and arise

from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Question: Why should we flee darkness?

  1.     Because it Invites God’s Wrath (Eph 5:6,7).

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

2.       Because it Keeps us Ignorant of the Truth (Ep 5:8-11).

2 Corinthians 4:3-4 [3] And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. [4] In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Matthew 16:26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

3.       Because Darkness Leads to Death (Eph 5:14).

2 Corinthians 4:14 knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.
